New to Information Services or Communications Services?
Are you building a new unit site?
A Flotilla and Division web page is the public face of our organisation and directly reflects upon the US Coast Guard. As such, it is just as important that a web page follow all Coast Guard and Auxiliary Policy.
Individual flotillas are encouraged to create web pages and use their creativity to showcase who we are and what we do. However, it is also important we all follow a national image and branding, so each will have a familiar look and feel.
- Determine if a WOW (Website without Webmaster) site is for you. This is a pushbutton website based on a Content Management System that is suitable for Flotilla and Division websites. No coding required!
- Alteratively you can utilize the National templates (DWT and XML). All the basic coding is provided and you add your own local coding Be sure to create a link in the left pane. More information is available here.
- Read the CS guide. The checklist for national review is VERY important.
- If you plan to have your site hosted on the National servers contact the DSO-CS with your unit information, webmaster and administrative contact information.
- Build your site.
- After your have had your site approved by your Bridge contact the DSO-CS for a review - (Hint... this goes faster if you read and APPLY the checklist beforehand).
- Once approved by District CS your site will be submitted for National review.
- Note - the annual BOW (Best of the Web contest) requires your site to be approved in order to be eligible.
The Auxiliary How-To Library contains articles and presentations on using Department services like the AuxDirectory. Additional resources like the AuxOfficer API (for using AUXOfficer information within your website) are posted below.
