The D13 member training staff is responsible for assisting unit SO's with the implementation of a quality member training program. Resources are available below.
The Auxiliary offers it's members a multitude of training opportunities. Most training is accomplished the traditional way through Member Training Officers, mentoring, workshops, classes, hands-on experience and self study. Much of the study material can now be downloaded from the internet and testing can be done in your own home, at your convenience, on-line, as well.
Additional training is offered through Class C Schools (known as "C" Schools). They are also known as Short Term Resident Training. These schools are usually one week or less and are paid for out of "training" funds. You donate your time and the Coast Guard pays for the travel costs. See the Auxiliary C-School Portal for information about who is eligible to attend, how to apply, how to acquire orders, class schedules, etc.
More Training resources can be found off the National Departments> T Department Menu choice of this site.
Why no contact information in the announcements?
For privacy and security reasons phone numbers or address (snail or Email) are not posted on this web site (exception is .mil addresses) Use the AUXDIRECTORY to get that information because as you may note I always post an office -- using AUXDIRECTORY you can quickly look up the member. Don't know how to use AUXDIRECTORY?--- ask your FSO-IS or FSO-CS for a little help -- its the greatest thing since sliced bread.

FLC/DLC Power Point Decks
The Power Point Decks and other material from the Flotilla and Division Leadership Course have been posted. They are on the Leadership Training page. Not all presenters used Power Point so the entire course is not listed here. Each module was about 45 minutes in length so they would individually make good member training moments for Flotilla or Division meetings. The FLC/DLC agenda is also posted.
The New Auxiliary Manual -- a presentation
See the resources below for a Power Point presentation covering the key updated points in the new Auxiliary Manual. This presentation was given at NACON to the Directors of the Auxiliary and would make either a good member training for a Flotilla meeting or a good basis for self study.
AUXWEA Course available at Pier 36 -- January / February / March of 2012 (UPDATED)
Flotilla 21 is pleased to announce a significant training opportunity for members who wish to take the AUXWEATHER course. Matt Thompson is a new member of our Flotilla who brings a major presence in the field of meteorology. Matt works for NOAA where he is the Port Meteorological Officer for Seattle, running the Voluntary Ship Observing Program throughout the region (Oregon Coast to the Canadian border). His resume includes stints as a Meteorological Technician in both Alaska (Cold Bay) and McMurdo Station, Antarctica. He is also a certified Firefighter/EMT and an instructor with the US Navy Sea Cadet Corps.
We will conduct this class at Pier 36 The course will begin the THIRD week of January and run for 6 to 7 weeks on a Sunday evening (with 2 ½ to 3 hours each night). Please add this to your member training calendar for early next year and encourage your members who want to take AUXWEA to sign up.
The fine print --
- Members must register in advance with the DSO-MT 13 in advance of the course (please see the AUXDIRECTORY for contact information.
- The student's own Flotilla will be responsible for providing each student with course material before the class begins. Members will be expected to complete some pre course homework which will be assigned one to two weeks prior to the start of the course.
