In the event of a federal funding hiatus, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary may be directed to cease operations until otherwise authorized. This would include postponing or cancelling public education, vessel examination and operations missions. Therefore such activities and events would be suspended for the duration. Congress provides express authority for some agencies to enter into contracts or to borrow funds to accomplish some of their functions despite a lapse in appropriations.
